“I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” Stephen Grellet
THE RIGHT KIND OF PEOPLE Gone is the city, gone the day, Yet still the story and the meaning stay: Once where a prophet in the palm shade basked A traveler chanced at noon to rest his miles. "What sort of people may they be," he asked, "In this proud city on the plains o'erspread?" "Well, friend, what sort of people whence you came?" "What sort?" the packman scowled; "why, knaves and fools." "You'll find the people here the same," the wise man said. Another stranger in the dusk drew near, And pausing, cried, "What sort of people here In your bright city where yon towers arise?" "Well, friend, what sort of people whence you came?" "What sort?" the pilgrim smiled, "Good, true and wise." "You'll find the people here the same," The wise man said. --Edwin Markham |
The quote by Stephen Grellet has been a part of my life since junior high school, when I typed it (on my Daddy's typewriter) and taped it to my closet door. Edwin Markham's poem and similar tales resonate with me and my life of moving over and over. I believe that you find what you're looking for, and I'm always looking for new friends. My mother told me to have a friend, you have to be a friend, and I try to be a friend to everyone I meet. My daughter Jennifer has that gift that Southerners call "never meeting a stranger." She may have inherited that from me and her Nana! It doesn't cost a penny to share a smile or a kind word. As a grateful follower of Christ, I believe I have been blessed to be a blessing. It is my joy to find sparkling bits of happiness in what is sometimes a dark, dark world. My joy would increase to know that sharing those sparkling bits brightened your world. I hope you'll share your sparkling bits with me. Welcome to my happy little world! Rosanne |
